Experiencia fantástica: Jonathan runs a top notch fishing operation. Communication is very thorough so you know exactly what to expect/tip/bring etc. transportation was arranged to and from our hotel to where we met up with the panga. Breakfast and lunch are provided (and were one of the best meals we had in La Paz)! Fishing was great, the captains were super nice, very friendly, and put us on some nice dorado. We had a great time, I can’t say enough good things about it! Tailhunter makes fishing in a foreign country super easy and went above and beyond. As a plus, they also offer to process your fish to take home. From start to finish they had us completely covered!

Experiencia fantástica: My family and I had the opportunity to fish on one of Tailhunter Sportfishing charters two weeks ago. It was the best! The captain and mate were brothers who knew the waters of La Paz, Baja, CA very well. We were picked up at our hotel and taken right to the marina. Breakfast and lunch was provided on the boat, very delicious, I might add. We caught Dorado and had a great time. When our fishing was over, we were driven back to our hotel beach. That night, we had our fish prepared right at their restaurant, Sea Level. They prepared our dorado three ways and I, who doesn't like fish, ate every bite on my plate. Thank you, Johnathan!

Experiencia fantástica: I go fishing up to Alaska then down to Mexico alternating years. Over the past two years, La Paz has become a great place to visit. With a new “malecon” or esplanade and dozens of new restaurants, La Paz has over taken Puerto Vallarta as the vacation spot south of the boarder. At the center of everything is Tailhunter - a great restaurant but also where Jonathan organizes the fishing trips. He takes care or everything: accommodations to organizing the captains and the boats, transport to the docks, even cleaning, vacuum sealing and freezing your catch (which is usually a lot) to bring home. A most excellent place to go fishing

Experiencia fantástica: I wish I would have discovered the town of La Paz and Tail hunters 20 years ago. I would have caught a lot more fish and had a lot more fun over the years. I can’t say enough about how much Jonathan and all of his staff care about what they do. I have been on a ton of boats over the years and never had even close to the same experience as I did with Tailhunters in La Paz. Plan on making it a regular trip for the rest of my life .

Experiencia fantástica: I can’t say enough great things about the company. I’ve been waiting to do a trip like this for a long time. Jonathan has been quick to respond and help with any questions during the planning and waiting process. During our stay, Jonathan and his team took amazing care of us, from the drivers to the boat captain. We could tell they all loved working with the company and had been with them a long time. We had Pancho as our captain both days of fishing and he was wonderful and made sure we got the most out of our days including me getting to cross catching a rooster fish off my bucket list. A tropical storm passed during the second half of our visit and one of our fishing days was cancelled due to the port closing. Jonathan made sure we had everything we needed and worked very hard to reschedule us for another day. He was there each morning to send us off with home made breakfast and was there to greet us back with a much needed cerveza. Thank you all for everything! Already looking forward to another trip with them.

The Tailhunter restaurant is a must also with great ambiance, service and food. This was my second time coming with my sons. Awesome as usual and lots of fish that Jonathan packaged beautifully for us to bring home to share and eat!

Always appreciate Jonathan Roldon’s professionalism, hospitality and passion for the sport. He sets us up with knowledgeable guides who were committed to making our fishing adventures successful. We reeled in over 40 fish, capped off with a Bull Dorado and 80 lb Marlin. Safe to say our coolers were full and so are our stomachs! Apart from fishing, this was the perfect trip to detach and bond with my family. We got to explore the city of La Paz and fell in love with the city’s charm, warmth and eclectic food options. La Paz is truly a city that keeps on giving, centered around the top-tier services and hospitality that Jonathan and Tailhunter staff provide. We will be back!

Everything ran like clockwork in La Paz and made it very easy to navigate hotel, transfers, fishing and cleaning/packaging. Experiencia fantástica: Last year for a graduation present to my oldest grandson, we booked our adventure with Tailhunter. This was the best trip in the 40 years I've been coming to La Paz. Over three days of fishing we caught more monster dorado than we could handle. This year I brought my other grandson . . . his first time fishing. We had three days of tremendous fishing for yellowtail. In both cases, it was not so much the great fishing, but the greatest service from Jonathan and his hard working staff. Thanks for helping me enjoy La Paz, fishing and most of all, my grandsons.

Experiencia fantástica: Jonathan and Tailhunter Sportfishing are the only way to fish La Paz. They provided a complete package from pick up at the airport, the hotel, personal service beyond expectations and more. More importantly we experienced world class fishing with excellent captains. One day we got four rooster fish up to 70lbs, 4 dorado, 6 jack carvella, 3 pargo, a trigger fish and a bonita. I had never caught a rooster fish before and neither had a buddy Bill. A trip we will never forget. And yes we are coming back next year. Thanks for everything Jonathan.

Experiencia fantástica: To say we had a great time would be an understatement! Tailhunter is top tier in professionalism, hospitality, and excitement! They had everything lined up for us and it made our trip that much more relaxing. Jonathan and Jilly are so friendly and the joy they have in helping people have the best experience ever is so tangible. It was our first time in La Paz and they helped make it so memorable, we will be going back again and again! Their fishing fleet was amazing as well. We ended up catching an off season Rooster! Also, take time to eat at their restaurant! Hands down the best ceviche we have ever had, and we eat a lot of it! We went down there middle of October and we haven’t stopped talking about how awesome everything was. 10/10 stars, we will be back. Special shout-out to Jorge, also! He picked us up & drove us to the airport in their private shuttle vans..and he made us feel like family even those short trips!

Experiencia fantástica: Jonathan and his team are the very best. I cannot recommend them enough. Due to a number of external circumstances, to say that our trip was chaotic is an understatement. From last-minute major travel plan changes to an unexpected trip to the Emergency Room and lastly, a hurricane, Jonathan adapted and handled everything with calmness, kindness, and swiftness. He even brought us dinner while we were in the hospital. Everything was organized, communication was top-notch, and the food at the Tailhunters restaurant was BY FAR the best food we ate in all La Paz.

The captains on the boats were fantastic, reading the abilities of the fisherman (of in some cases lack of ability LOL…) and adjusting accordingly and putting us on the fish for a Great Time! We had a double header hook up on Tuna in the first 10 minutes and fishing was excellent throughout the day for Dorado! The snorkel tour Jonathan set us up on was fantastic with a great captain and guide. And finally, Jorge (Driver of the TailHunter van to and from Cabo to La Paz). He was hilarious and made the long trip to and from Cabo very easy. TailHunter has a great set of people, and it shows in the quality business they are running. All of the staff at the hotel were fantastic given the situation of Hurricane Norma. A big thank you to them! All the food we had at the hotel even after power went down was excellent, as well as the meals and our fish caught and cooked by the Tail Hunter restaurant! (Best. Tacos. EVER!). As for Jonathan and Jilly, I’m so very impressed with your commitment to the business and your clients. You went well above anything I would have expected with taking care of us and answering our silly questions and checking on us during the little storm (Norma), going out of your way to bring us water and check on us, and the speed at which you would get back to us via phone or email. I felt like I was being taken care of by family (or probably much better! HA). I am very much looking forward to my next trip to La Paz and bringing my wife for the experience. My fishing partner and I will be bringing our other two fishing mates that weren’t able to make this trip, as I know they are already jealous of the pictures we’ve shared, and we’ll be back with Tail Hunter for sure. Not only was the entire trip very well planned out by the Tailhunter crew, they were all so nice! From the moment we said hello, we felt like family. La Paz feels like a hidden gem. The water was calm, the fishing was spectacular and the food was amazing!! Jonathan and his crew takes great pride in their profession and it is reflected throughout the experience. This was our first time deepsea fishing, and the Boat Captain took his time to teach us and let us do the majority of the work, and we appreciate that. We had a wonderful time! The hotel room is very basic, but we spent most of our time on the beach anyway, so it wasn't a big deal to us. It was right on the beach, and the restaurant at the hotel was delicious, so it was an easy place to relax. And when we weren't fishing with amazing captains, relaxed we did! We will be back... It is an experience that shouldn't be missed. If you're on the fence and debating... Don't, just book it!!

Experiencia fantástica: Tailhunter Sports Fishing in La Paz, Baja, Mexico is a wonderful family owned fishing fleet based on the inland passage of the Sea of Cortez. About 2 hr drive north of Cabo San Lucas. We spent a week there fishing in late Aug 2023. The fishing was the best we've encountered, friendly and helpful captains on each boat. We fished just the 2 of us with our own very accommodating captains. The Tailhunter Seaside Restaurant cooked up our catch one night. Best fish (Dorado) that we have had prepared. Other activities are also offered such as Scuba diving, snorkeling, whale watching and your pick of what you want to fish for each day (seasonal of course) Jonathan started his fishing fleet over 30 yrs ago and together with his wife Jill and long-time staff, they have all the details covered. They cleaned and vacuumed-packed all our fish. No hidden costs or unpleasant surprises. Jonathan has full disclosure as to how much we should expect to pay for tipping and transportation. We had a wonderful Taco Tour guided by Jorge; the Los Gaviatos Hotel was terrific and Hector (manager) and staff were wonderful. The snorkeling with sea lions trip never disappoints and was quite memorable. We are all still talking about the extremely fun trip - thanks again to Jonathan and Jill!!

Experiencia fantástica: I had such a great time last year which was my first-time fishing with Tailhunter that I came back this year. Fortunately, Hurricane Hilary just passed and did minimal damage so we were able to go out without any issues. Jonathan did a great job arranging everything requested. We had a fun fishing both La Paz and Las Arenas. Kudos to both Captains Julio and Gerardo. I will definitely plan on returning but perhaps in the spring to catch yellowtail and other species that are on the bucket list.

Experiencia fantástica: The fishing with Tailhunter Sportfishing was unbelievable...I cannot believe how many fish we caught! It was once of the best experiences fishing we have had. We decided to make the trip at the last minute, and Jonathan and Jilly were more than accommodating. Dorado limits within 1/2 hour, and then catch and release after that. Just one after another. We have never experienced fishing to this degree. If we had one complaint, it was that the humidity was high and we had to really drink a lot of water! Can't wait to go back and do this again. An incredible trip that we are looking forward to repeating!

Experiencia fantástica: My 5th trip with Tailhunter this year and I look forward to going back every time I have to leave. If you can try to fish at least 3 days. Go for the variety of fishing the La Paz fleet and the Las Arenas fleet! They’re nothing like pulling up the beach at sunrise on muertos bay for a day on the water. On the La Paz side (if you stay at La Concha hotel) you get to walk down stairs from your room and launch directly from the beach. Bring your soft sided ice chests and if bring tackle down make sure to check the Mexican TSA rules on what you can check vs carry on (they are a little different than the US rules). Jonathan and Jilly provide better customer service than an outfitter I have ever fished with. If you have any questions that are always happy to help. You and going to have a blast in La Paz! - Andy

Experiencia fantástica: We've known Jonathan and Jilly for many years before booking one of his trips at the Sports Expo, we finally put the deposit down and now this is the third time we have been to La Paz to fish with Jonathan and his Tailhunter crew. We called him up on a 3 week notice just to see if he had an availability for a quick Father's Day trip and he totally hooked us up! PUN intended! The experience is wonderful from start to finish- from them picking you up at the airport, transporting you to your hotel/condo, back and forth from fishing trips and back to the airport. We plan on coming back every year if we can make it. We enjoy eating all of the fish we take home- I would recommend this to first time fishermen and women to professionals any day of the week! We started out as friends but now they are considered family!!

Experiencia fantástica: Great place for first-time and experienced fishers. Jonathan and Jill are outstanding hosts with plenty of options for accommodations and targeting saltwater fish species. We were there primarily for rooster fishing and caught so many other species. Remember to process your catch for your evenings meal, too. Recommend staying at LA Concha if with family (easy beach access and secluded) otherwise for night life stay along the tourist section.

Booking with TailHunters takes all the guesswork out of where to stay, what Captains and boats to use where to go and what restaurants to eat at each morning when we met in the lobby to be transported to our fishing area, Jonathan was there with a big smile on his face checking to make sure that everybody had what they needed for the day. When booking with TailHunters they take care of everything from lodging to picking you up at the airport and transporting you back. It’s a class act company would highly recommend.

Experiencia fantástica: Just arrived back in the States from my 4th trip with Tailhunters. As always, great time being on the water catching a full variety of fish, seeing the guides and getting to visit with them again, enjoying the sun, people, atmosphere and food. I'd highly recommend going down and checking it out. Took my two daughters the last trip and had a great time as did they.

Experiencia fantástica: Great service and view from the second floor. Fish and prawn tacos were freshly done and were amazing. Limited menu, but if fish tacos and a view are what you’re looking for, this is a great spot. We sat at a large long table facing the view.

Experiencia fantástica: Jonathan and Jill run a first-class operation. I have been on two trips now, and I will undoubtedly book others in the future. The fishing is good to great, and I caught my first dorados (mahi-mahi) and Rooster fish, among other species. The panga captains are very knowledgeable and work hard to get you on fish. Our accommodations were very nice, and the food we had at the restaurant was always good. We enjoyed spending time walking around LaPaz as well, especially along the beach walk.

Experiencia fantástica: I absolutely recommend Tailhunter! Not just here either, I recommend Tailhunter in person to all my coworkers too. We've been on two different trips now and loved every second! Our capitans Victor and Julio both were knowledgeable and experienced - brought us right out in to the action. The restaurant too, oh man so delicious. The fish you catch in the morning, they'll turn that into the greatest platter in La Paz. Good selection of cervezas too! Experiencia fantástica: My father and I met Jonathan and his wife Jill at the Western Conservation Expo in Salt Lake City, UT. We had been considering going to Alaska to do some deep sea fishing, but I was concerned about getting sea sick. While speaking with them at the show, and expressing our concerns, they explained to us, in detail, why this might be a better fit. La Paz is located on the East side of Baja California Sur; about 2-3 hours North-East of Cabo. They explained that the fishing they do is in the Sea of Cortez, which is beneficial to people who get sea sick because it doesn't feel like the actual ocean with big swells. I would personally compare it to a very large lake type of feel. While there, we did experience some wind on one of the days, and there were some smalls swells, but nothing that you see or hear about when people go deep sea fishing. We flew into Cabo and drove in a rental car to La Paz. Upon arrival, we met Jonathan at his restaurant Tailhunters, and he gave us the paperwork to our hotel, La Concha. Jonathan and his wife were very involved throughout the process and ensuring that we had everything prepared prior to coming. Every morning, a van would pick us up from our hotel and take us to the loading dock. There were two options, the first being the side of La Paz, and the other was about an hours drive to an area called Las Arenas. We fished a total of 3 days. 1 day on the side of Las Arenas and 2 days on the side of La Paz. We didn't have a preference on either side, we liked them both. We simply chose the side that the captains were recommending based on the fishing the prior day. The captains didn't speak very much English, but they really don't need to. I speak Spanish so I was able to translate for my father. They know enough Spanglish to get by and enjoy each others company. The captains do all of the work for you. They prepare the rods, the bait, the casting, the spearing of the fish when it gets to the boat, the fillet of the fish, the disposal of the remaining fish, etc.. I would definitely recommend not only using Jonathan as your guide service, but also La Paz in general. We had a fabulous time and we will be back one day in the future.

Our hosts were wonderful, the fishing was great, the water beautiful...and we got to swim with sea lions (again). Great hotel just off the bay. When our take-home fish run out in a couple of years we'll be back!

Experiencia fantástica: 5 star and more! By far one of the best fishing trips I have ever gone on in 65 years of fishing. Our (my fishing buddy and me) first time with Tailhunters and it won't be the last. The personal service, communications before and during the trip were outstanding. Jonathan and Jill go out of there way to make their customers feel "at home" . The fishing guides are the best and our guides worked very hard to put us on fish (mahi mahi). and they did. When you've caught enough fish in the day to call it quits because you don't have the strength to pull another 30 pounder in its a good day fishing! In fact our first guide had just won the dorado tournament 2 weeks before and we came in as high boat on numbers and size for the day over the entire fleet! The hotel they use (La Concha) is a good fisherman's hotel. The restaurant is actually pretty good and the pool looking over the beach and bay is great for evenings watching the sun set with the bar steps away. The TAILHUNTER restaurant that Jonathan owns in town is outstanding!!! Small but the food is excellent (try the shrimp tacos!!!) The fish and chips is more than 2 can eat. If you can fly into La Paz airport on Volaris that is the best way but if you can't and have to go to Del Cabo airport (SJD) unless you are very adventurous and have driven in other countries take Jonathan's van service for the 2.5 hr trip each way. IF you are able to negotiate foreign countries driving then use BBB car rental just off the airport Its the best one there (Google it up). Make darn sure you have a phone with directions that works in Mexico because once you get to La Paz the fun begins in negotiating the maze of streets you need to travel on to get to Tailhunters. Just remember speeds are in KMs and they do give out speeding tickets. For the locals be aware that STOP SIGNS are just a recommendation BUT YOU can be stopped for them if you act like a local and blow through them like the locals do. BIG potholes abound in town BEWARE. If you are into Baja fishing and want dorado wahoo, pez gallo, pargo another fish this is the place to go. Just a fantastic trip!

Experiencia fantástica: Jill and Jonathan provide superb customer service and they make sure to follow up every step of the way, from wishing you safe travels at your departure to providing reminders about your time, date, and requirements to have a pleasant and successful fishing experience. Jonathan set me up with captain "Chito," a quiet, experienced, trophy winner fishing machine, that was always focused on the target since we departed at the early hours of the morning. We quickly arrived to our bait boat, followed by an hour of fishing at a great spot were we caught 8 barriletes (skipjack tuna) for additional bait. By the end of the day we reeled 4 beautiful dorados (sometimes called Dolphin) and I was dropped off at the beach right in front of my hotel. I will return to La Paz very soon and my first call will be to Jill and Jonathan to book again and again. Highly recommended!

Experiencia fantástica: My friends and I have been taking this trip for over 10 years. In that time I’ve not missed a single year. This October, myself and 8 of my buddies are returning again. Jonathan and Jill take care of all our needs; lodging, organizing the fish locations, matching us up with our favorite Captains, within reason… They have an awesome restaurant/tavern that prepares authentic Mexican food with a Baja Sur, flavor. They’ve even have live music on some nights. The restaurant will prepare your catch of the day which I’ve always thought was a special treat. I can’t wait to return to see my Tailhunter family and chat with the Captains about the fishing and to check in with them and to see how their families are doing. Panchito , Mancho , Armando, Jorge and all the fellas. Oh, I don’t want to forget this, Jonathan and his staff also clean, freeze and prepare your catch for the trip back to the states. These guys break their humps to take care of their clients/friends. I still don’t know when Jon and Jill find time to sleep.

Experiencia fantástica: Every year I book a fishing trip somewhere with friends or family. I have fished in several states in the USA as well as Canada and Mexico. This year I booked a trip with Jonathon when he and his wife were in Salt Lake City at the annual Sportsman show. Although I have always had a great time, this year with Jonathon was by far the most organized trip of all. He takes care of everything from air port transportation, securing the room, to transportation from the hotel to the fishing boat. Each day of fishing starts with a greeting from Jonathon and a breakfast to go, at the end of the day he is waiting to greet you again with a cold beer. The Tail hunter seaside restaurant owned by Jonathon and his wife Jill is a nice place to eat and relax. Experiencia fantástica: Most Epic Trip!! Heard about Tailhunter thru a mutual friend. So, not being a fisherman, I contacted Tailhunter and got an immediate response. Told Jonathan we were coming down and would like to go fishing. He explained what we needed to do and invited us to his cantina. It was a blast after that. Went fishing, got hooked up by 8am (Blue Marlin) a couple Dorados, and then headed in. We donated the fish to the boat Captain (Numbero Uno) we nicknamed him. We had a couple meals at Sea Level, also Tailhunter, and met a couple of other people that frequent La Paz and Tailhunters. Great food and wonderful people!! We've been using Jonathan's top notch service for over 20 years and every year has always been a blast of excitement. From the time you start your reservations, the follow up emails, getting picked up at the airport, hotel accommodations at the La Concha, choice to fishing La Paz or La Serena, to having your fish cooked up at his restaurant on the Malecon. The Captains on the super pangas are also cool to fish with. They work hard in making sure you catch fish and really take care of the fish you catch throughout the day. After fileting your fish, you can either package the fish in your own ziplocks or pay a few buck and have Jonathan's team process your meat in 1-2lb baggies that will last for atleast a year. You can't beat the service. We've tried other places along the Baja coast and no body else compares. Jonathan and Jill have a great operation in La Paz and we look forward to our next trip.
